A Memorial to Glassboro Glassworks - Preface

Solomen Stranger, Thomas Carpenter, Peter Wickoff, Thomas Whitney. They were the founders of the Glassboro we know today yet I would bet a majority of Glassboro residents do not who they are. These men were what put the "glass" in Glassboro. My scalar project will give an account of how their connection with glass shaped the culture of Glassboro, and how glass shaped the culture of the world. 


This essay will examine the differences between the depictions of glassblowers in the statues in the Glassboro town square and that of the historical records. Are the glassblowers all they live up to be? What about the glass products themselves? Were they sold regionally, nationally, or even worldwide?  


Take a look at how this statue (in Glassboro's town square) depicts a Glassboro glassblower. Were glassblowers truly this spectacular in their craft? Were they the epitome of the human form? Chapter 1, The Workers at the Glassworks will cover the answers to these questions and more.
