Reflections from a Pre-Med Student
Currently, I work in Dr. Subash Jonnalagadda's research lab in which I handle the Organic Chemistry Research portion of the lab. In which I primarily deal with identifying new reagents as well as synthesizing new reactions of biologically active natural products. On the other hand, I also the medicinal chemistry portion of the lab; where designing and synthesizing new potential anti-cancer agents and evaluating them using spectroscopy. We have been developing aza and bora-heterocyclic compounds and betulin-based natural product derivatives as anti-cancer agents.Below is the structure of betulin and is naturally occuring on the bark of birch trees:
Additionally, in collaboration with Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine (RSOM), we have also identified few Withaferin-serotonin conjugates as potential therapeutic options for the treatment of Alzheimers’ Disease. Taking a look at my future in research and as a potential provider for the citizens of Glassboro. I intent on attending medical school in 2021, hopefully here in Glassboro at Rowan's School of Osteopathic Medicine. As I try to get one step closer in specializing in Emergency Medicine. Working in the Emergency Room would be a dream come true for myself. In the later end of my life; I see myself expanding my research even further as many of my family and friends are effected my cancer and Alzheimers.
