Reflection
My research began on the internet searching for architectural information relating to buildings in Glassboro and after a thorough search, I was unable to find any substantial information beyond some descriptions related to house listings. After consulting with Dr. Jennifer Kitson and Michael Benson for advice, I contacted Ms. Sarah Borden to delve into the Rowan University Special Archives for architectural information related to the Hollybush Mansion. Throughout this process, I feel as though I have been granted the opportunity to look at this historical information through a more creative lense. My view of Glassboro and in part Rowan University has changed because I now understand just how influential the Whitneys were on the town of Glassboro. Related to the architectural drawings, I believe that I gained valuable insight into how the Hollybush Mansion was designed and restored. While the very original plans could not be found, the wealth of documents related to the mansion’s restoration gave me a newfound interest and respect for the intricate design.
I would like to thank Ms. Sara Borden for her help in searching the Rowan University Special Archives for information relating to the Hollybush Mansion. The information in the Special Archives has been invaluable to my understanding of Thomas Whintey and the Hollybush Mansion. Ms. Borden’s care to ensure the archives are maintained and organized is an amazing service and I am grateful for her knowledge to point me in the right direction for my investigation and for the opportunity to look into the archives. I would also like to thank Dr. Jennifer Kitson and Mr. Michael Benson for providing assistance with brainstorming ideas and everything else from locating resources to operating Scalar.
