The Lived Experience at Rowan University - Past and Present

Introduction

Glassboro, New Jersey, is a small town in Southern New Jersey, with only a population of around 19,000 (City-Data). Formally incorporated as a borough in 1920, it was the home of the Glassboro Normal School, which opened its doors to prospective students in 1923 (MapQuest). After several name changes, expansive initiatives under institutional leaders, and the development of several colleges and degree programs, this is today known as Rowan University.
If I am being perfectly honest, I do not recall ever crossing paths with Glassboro, New Jersey, though I was born and raised in New Jersey my entire life. However, that changed nearly two years ago; on April 18th, 2017, to be exact. This was the day that Rowan University, and subsequently, Glassboro, New Jersey, evolved from just a name I had casually heard around my high school and just an abstract space on a map, into a place of meaning, understanding, learning, relationships, and lifelong memories, which now houses my sense of place and has informed my lived experience.
